The city of Dschang (West Cameroon), produces about 50 tons of trash per year. This is a problem and Design is problem solving. Design is not a magical and mysterious thing. It is rational and objective and its components come in endless bursts of questions which are necessary to create an awareness campaign: what story to tell? How to make it efficient (avoid overloading the support)? Which photos, color to use?
The goal: to pass emotions on through a visual the residents will rely to in order to clean their city.
The Waste Management Project of Dschang exists since 2011. Thanks to this, the city has seen its waste collection capabilities strengthened with the acquisition of a first compaction trucks, a second new truck, 04 tricycle bikes for pre-collection and many other technical and material support such as garbage bins, collection of personal training at the different waste collection systems in place, delivery of personal protective equipment and in total, 33 386 children aged 4 to 25 years old were sensitized and educated on the environment issues.
From Photoshop to an ad that will be transmitted to young, adult and old people, I think this is a great story in which each designer and artist holds a main role.
